YOU WANT TO LET PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT AN ASSOCIATION THAT IS NOT UP ON THE PLANET’NGO SITE (or several NGOs)

Your mission involves:

Meeting the people who run small humanitarian associations in a country of your choice,

Finding out about some of their accomplishments and projects,

Defining, with the help of the manager of the association, their precise needs in terms of personnel and materials,

Take photos if you can, and don't forget the logo of the NGO

Completing the questionnaire supplied by PLANET’NGO.  We ask for a series of precise information about the NGO, but also ask for personal impressions and feelings,

Obtaining the agreement of the manager of the NGO that this information be used for a dedicated web page on the PLANET’NGO website. This page will be put on-line only after we have validated the details with him,

After setting up your User Account, fill in the on-line form on the PLANET'NGO site. If you already have an Editor Profile you can use it to propose as many NGOs as you wish - you do not need to create a new Profile for each.

Some explanations

What is a small NGO?

The objective of PLANET’NGO is to support and promote small associations because their achievements, which are often small in comparison with those put in place by large organisations, are nonetheless indispensable in the global humanitarian and environmental network. These thousands of small activities help to preserve our planet as long as possible and give hope to millions of people in difficulty.

Our definition of a small NGO is one whose budget does not exceed an average of € 300,000 per year over the past three years. This is an arbitrary definition which allows us to exclude NGOs which are already well established and have the communication structure necessary for obtaining financial, material and personnel support by themselves.

Making contact and finding out about an NGO

Often during our travels we can happen upon people who work in small humanitarian associations. By spending time with them we can learn a lot about the country we are visiting and help give them the international visibility that will allow them to find the support they need more easily.

The meeting is therefore a real exchange which is enriching on both informational and human levels. We often learn from these meetings that other small NGOs exist in the area which can also be given visibility on PLANET’NGO.

In your local area too, small associations would be very grateful for any support for their activities. Don’t forget them.

Defining the needs of the NGO

In general, the manager that you meet already knows exactly what the NGO needs. The Editor’s task is to pinpoint certain aspects with the help of the questionnaire specially designed for PLANET’NGO.

Filling out the questionnaire

Before you leave you should print out one or several copies of the questionnaire and the list of drop-down menus so that you can fill it out while you are away, otherwise you run the risk of forgetting to ask for some information and it cannot be validated by us.

The section with scores from 1 to 5 relates to your personal impressions. It will help us to get an idea of the NGO. If several Editors agree with a negative impression the NGO could be delisted.

What to do if the NGO does not have an email address?

Often, NGOs which are situated in isolated areas with poor network connections do not have an email address. If this it the case for the NGO which you wish to publicise, you can agree with the NGO that you put yourself down as the privileged contact through which people can make contact with the NGO. Simply register the NGO in your capacity as the Main NGO Contact rather than as the Editor. You will then be contacted by PLANET'NGO whenever we have information to transmit to the NGO. You will therefore be its spokesperson, and thanks to you the NGO will no longer be isolated.

How to update an NGO already listed?

Important if this is not the first registration: If this NGO has already been listed by another editor you cannot update the listing through your personal login. Only the NGO in question or the original editor can do this. However, you can let us know by email if the NGO would like to modify its listing but cannot do so themselves.

You can, however, make personal comments about this NGO under your personal pages. Don't hesitate!

Getting the manager’s agreement that he be listed on PLANET’NGO

The advantages for the small NGO are:

1.    Publication of a dedicated secure web page on the PLANET’NGO site which would give the NGO international visibility (show the example on the Internet if possible) and avoid unsuitable requests.

2.    The possibility of gaining the support of people who wish to invest in their projects, either in-situ or via the Internet, in areas of qualification that he needs,

3.    The possibility of gaining materials according to his specific needs (IT, medical, pedagogical, vehicles, clothes, toys….),

4.    The potential of getting financial aid from individuals, enterprises, foundations, local groups….,

5.    The opportunity to make contact with other association and to forge partnerships,

6.    The possibility of getting financial aid from PLANET’NGO after 3 years of cooperation. PLANET’NGO is a non-profit association whose gains will be reinvested to finance certain projects put forward by associations who have been listed on the site for at least 3 years.

The criteria for being listed with PLANET’NGO

1.    Be a small NGO (with an average annual budget of less than € 300,000 over the past three years)

2.    Adhere to the PLANET’NGO charter,

3.    Inform PLANET’NGO immediately of any changes, in addition to the annual update.

4.   Pay an annual subscription fee of € 30 renewable on the annual updating of information. You can, if you wish, offer the subscription fee as a donation to the NGO. This small gesture will give the NGO access to many more possibilities and sources of aid and assistance.

How to deliver the information to PLANET’NGO

Once you have answered all the questions and added your comments you can access the on-line questionnaire(s) on the Internet by creating your personal Editor account on the PLANET’NGO site (if you haven’t already done so) and clicking “My NGO files”. The on-line questionnaire allows you to upload photos that you have taken.

We will check the information received with the manager you met and once we have received his subscription fee we will publish the page on the PLANET’NGO site for a renewable period of one year.

Editors who update the NGO files at least five times a year can avail of the advantages negotiated with the PLANET'NGO partners.

As an Editor, you can also give your own personal impressions of NGOs you are familiar with, even if you were not the person who originally proposeed them for the site.

Over to you!

PLANET’NGO wishes you pleasant discoveries.
